Why fridge disposal is regulated in Hong Kong
Refrigerators contain refrigerant gases (traditionally HFCs; older units contain HCFCs) that must not be released into the atmosphere. They also contain expanded polyurethane insulation foam and metal components with high recovery value. Under Hong Kong's WEEE producer-responsibility scheme, all refrigerators must be processed at the WEEE·PARK facility in Tuen Mun via a licensed operator. We are compliant and can issue a written disposal certificate — useful for offices with ESG reporting or landlords who want proof of proper handover.
What to do before pickup
- Unplug 24–48 hours ahead so the interior warms to room temp and the coils drain.
- Empty all food. We can't dispose of food waste — donate/compost/bin it separately.
- Remove loose shelves and drawers. Tape the door shut for the ride down.
- Drain the melt-water tray (bottom back of the unit).
- Tell us if it's built-in so we allow 15–30 min for cabinet disconnect.

Is fridge disposal regulated in Hong Kong?

Can I use the EPD's free collection service instead?
Yes — call the EPD's WEEE hotline 2676 8888 to arrange free statutory collection when you buy a new fridge from a registered seller. Downside: booking windows are typically 2–4 weeks. Our paid service arrives same-day and carries the fridge from your kitchen, not just from the door.
Do you take built-in fridges?
Yes. Built-in refrigerators need disconnection from cabinetry. Our crew handles that in one visit. Tell us at booking that it's built-in so we allow the extra 15–30 minutes.
Will you defrost the fridge?
You should unplug 24–48 hours ahead. We can defrost on-site if urgent but it delays pickup by an hour.
Can I get an ESG-ready certificate?
Yes. Written disposal certificate with item type, weight and processing route on request — drop-in for ESG or ISO 14001 reporting.
